Independent Living, Inc.’s Peer Support Services
Peer Services at Independent Living, Inc. (ILI) encompass a unique and invaluable approach to supporting individuals with lived experience of disability, substance use, mental health, and/or trauma and recovery. Peers are individuals who connect with members or program participants through the lens of their own personal experiences, serving as allies and guides in the journey toward independence, recovery, and wellness.

- Lived Experience: Peers have lived experience with disability, substance use, mental health, and/or trauma and recovery, allowing them to offer authentic understanding and empathy to those they support.
- Mentorship and Advocacy: Peer support involves mentorship and advocacy, empowering individuals to advocate for themselves and supporting them in navigating various systems and challenges.
- Self-Determined Support: Peer support is always self-determined, meaning individuals choose what they need to support their independence, wellness, and recovery goals, and Peers support them in achieving these goals.
- Active Recovery: Peer support is an active form of recovery, emphasizing progress, growth, and resilience on the path toward wellness.
Through Peer Services at ILI, individuals are met with compassion, understanding, and empowerment as they navigate their unique journeys of independence, wellness, and/or recovery, fostering a sense of community, hope, and resilience along the way.
